Strength in Weakness

Around this time of year, things can get chaotic. School becomes pressing, family events start to happen, and everything can just pull you apart. It can feel defeating how weak we can be sometimes. I know I have felt this way a lot, lately, and I am sure that many of you are feeling the same.

In times like these, I try to stop and remember that I don't have to depend on my own strength.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1 NASB.

For me, realizing that my strength comes from the Lord is hard. I want to do things all by myself, take on the world by myself, but this is the wrong way to look at it. No matter what happens, I will be a weak human being, and as a human, I can't keep going strong all by myself. And even if I think I can, I will never be able to achieve what God has planned for me in my weakness, unless I lean on God.

"And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 NASB.

We can only become strong, when we realize that we need the Lord, because we are weak. His strength is then made perfect in our weakness. Therefore, we can rest and be strengthened, knowing that God is always with us and has our back.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exalts, and with my song I shall thank him." Psalm 28:7 NASB

We need to thank the Lord even in times we are tired. Although it might seem strange, most of the things we get stressed from are things that others around the world wish they had. Instead of looking on it as a problem, thank the Lord that you are so blessed to have these problems.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV.

God tells us to be anxious for nothing and he wants to hear our requests. But the key to this verse in Philippians is to do it with thanksgiving.

Finally, even though we go through times of hardship and stress, we need to continue to spread the word of God. This doesn't take as much energy as one might think, because the Lord supplies us with all the strength, we need to do His work. As people witness how we handle our stress, if we are doing it with thanksgiving, people will notice there is a difference in us. Most people complain about their problems, and that is where we should be different. By seeing our example, people can come to Christ.

"Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." 1 Peter 4:11 NASB.

When I am feeling stressed or run down, I sing this song to remember that the Lord is my strength when I am weak.

You Are My All in All- By Dennis Jernigan

You are my strength when I am weak

You are the treasure that I seek

You are my all in all

Seeking You as a precious jewel

Lord, to give up I'd be a fool

You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God

Worthy is Your name

Jesus, Lamb of God

Worthy is Your name

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame

Rising up again I bless Your name

You are my all in all

When I fall down You pick me up

When I am dry You fill my cup

You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God

Worthy is Your name

Jesus, Lamb of God

Worthy is Your name
