Quotes By Charles Spurgeon

Charles Spurgeon was a Bible commentator and preacher in the 1800s, and the things he said about the Bible are inspirational. I hope you enjoy getting encouragement from all his quote. Comment below what you think about the quotes and what I say about them!

It seems to me that doubt is worse than trial. I had sooner suffer any affliction than be left to question the gospel or my own interest in it.

I don't know about you, but I certainly want to shine Jesus's light so obviously that no one, not even unbelievers can question how much I love God. Unbelievers might call me crazy, but I am more than willing to be called crazy for God.

The most effective sermons are those which make opposers of the Gospel bite their lips and gnash their teeth.

We just have to face it. The Bible is offensive. It is offensive to people because it convicts them of their sins. And this is not a bad thing. The only way someone can be saved is if they truly except Jesus's sacrifice, and this only comes by realizing that they are sinners.

A Christian man should so shine in his life, that a person could not live with him a week without knowing the gospel.

The gospel is not for you who can save yourselves, but for those who are lost.

Only those who can admit they are sinners can be saved. So, if they are hard-hearted and can't see their sin, we can only do what we can to plant the seed of the gospel into their heart. Those who want to hear the gospel are the people who the gospel is really for.

The old, old gospel is the newest thing in the world; in its very essence it is forever good news.

If God requires of the sinner, dead in sin, that he should take the first step, then he requires just that which renders salvation as impossible under the gospel as it was under the law, since man is as unable to believe as he is to obey.

In short, we can do nothing without God. Even taking the first steps towards redemption is impossible for us to do without God.

The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ.

Let this be to you the mark of true gospel preaching - where Christ is everything, and the creature is nothing; where it is salvation all of grace, through the work of the Holy Spirit applying to the soul the precious blood of Jesus.

The Word of God can take care of itself, and will do so if we preach it, and cease defending it. See you that lion. They have caged him for his preservation; shut him up behind iron bars to secure him from his foes! See how a band of armed men have gathered together to protect the lion. What a clatter they make with their swords and spears! These mighty men are intent upon defending a lion. O fools, and slow of heart! Open that door! Let the lord of the forest come forth free. Who will dare to encounter him? What does he want with your guardian care? Let the pure gospel go forth in all its lion-like majesty, and it will soon clear its own way and ease itself of its adversaries.

The Bible can prove itself. We don't need to get all defensive when people question it, because we speak the truth. The truth always comes out in the end, so it is important that we just act as spokesmen for God, who can fully prove Himself.
