Quotes By C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis, the author of the Chronicles of Narnia, was a great Bible commentator. I love reading his quotes, and gleaning what uncanny wisdom the Lord blessed him with. I hope you will also enjoy each of these quotes I have compiled below. What do you think of them and what I say about them?

"When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind." ~ C. S. Lewis

Honestly, I love this first quote because it is literally what we Christians look like to the rest of the world. The world is running towards eternal death at a rapid rate, and us Christians running the other way look like we are the crazy ones. Have you ever tried to run against a crowd? There is so much more push back than if you were running with the crowd. Sometimes running the other way can be really hard, and it does look like we are crazy, but it will be worth it in the end.

"Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace in difficulties." ~ C. S. Lewis

"Once people stop believing in God, the problem is not that they will believe in nothing; rather, the problem is that they will believe anything." ~ C. S. Lewis

This quote is my favorite. The world tells so many lies that people grasp at that are not the truth. When people don't want to be convicted by God, they snatch up the closest lie and will believe anything that makes them feel better about themselves and their sins.

"Don't shine so that others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see HIM." ~ C. S. Lewis

This makes me think of the verse John 3:30: "He must increase, but I must decrease." We are just tools in God's hands, and He should get all the glory. Through all our actions, people need to not see us at all, but only see the Lord. I know someone like this, who the light shines in them so strongly, I am hit by it every time they walk into the room. I want God's light to shine from me like that.

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less." ~ C. S. Lewis

Again, John 3:30 works here: "He must increase, but I must decrease." I can't truly be God's tools unless I stop thinking about myself so much.

"If you never take risks, you'll never accomplish great things. Everybody dies, but not everyone has lived." ~ C. S. Lewis

Have you lived out the great commission? I believe you have, or at the very least care because you are reading this right now, but I'll say it anyway. I know, it's scary, but until we share the gospel and take the risk by swallowing our fear, we will never truly understand the fulness of the relationship God wants to have with us.

"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." ~ C. S. Lewis

This would be an amazing comeback to someone asking how you can believe in something you can't see. The entire world and that we exist is just proof that God exists.

"One of the most cowardly things ordinary people do is to shut their eyes to facts." ~ C. S. Lewis

And sometimes, even though we try our best to get people to see God's goodness, there is nothing we can do but pray for them. God can use the seed we plant in their heart to bring them to Him.

"We must stop regarding unpleasant or unexpected things as interruptions of real life. The truth is that interruptions are real life." ~ C. S. Lewis

Don't view sharing the gospel as an interruption. I know I did. But it turns out that C. S. Lewis was right. Sharing the gospel is just a necessary part of a Christian's life.

"Don't judge a man by where he is, because you don't know how far he has come." ~ C. S. Lewis

"Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." ~ C. S. Lewis
