I Know You Through Kindness

One of my good friends recently pointed out to me that there are more ways to share the gospel than to hand out a gospel tract. And she is absolutely right. While handing out a gospel tract can certainly get the job done, we also need to be diligent to do the simple little things that can make a big impact in a completely different way.

Another friend recently reminded me of a verse that goes really well with this. "He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much." Luke 16:10 NASB. And those little things can be as simple as living faithfully to God.

It could mean listening to what our parent's say, whether you disagree with them or not. Why do we do this? God gave us parents for a reason, and He commands us to listen to their advice as long as it lines up with His word. "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Ephesians 6:1 NASB.

Another way to be faithful in the little things is by showing love and compassion to those that we may not like. "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matthew 6:2 NASB. The world doesn't love their enemies, or even those who are their friends, much. They are too consumed with selfishness. So, when we love each other and are kind to others, people notice.

Just the other day, I was grocery shopping for my mom, and when I got to the checkout, I asked the lady if there was some way, I could pray for her. She looked at me and said she believed she had checked me out before, and I had asked her the same question. But the thing she remembered most about our encounter was that someone had been kind to her. Just by smiling at someone, you can make their day, and that is something that will stay with them, and they will remember.

Actions speak louder than words, so while I could hand out gospel tracts by the dozens, it would make no difference if I wasn't doing it with the right heart and wasn't trying to live it out for myself. Many people can come to God just by seeing that you are different, because you have peace that passes all understanding and a true happiness that can only be found in trusting God. They will remember you by your kindness, and maybe they will even ask you why you are so at peace in a world that is go, go, go, and full of so many disasters and teragedies. Perhaps this will be your opportunity to show them to God. Also, by praying for them, we give them up to God.

So, while handing out gospel tracts and sharing the gospel is a necessary, it is useless without action on our part. We need to make a bigger effort to walk what we talk and spread God's word through our actions as well as words.
