When I was seven years old, my family went to a Hume Lake event. It was a Christian gathering of many families that drove out to the desert to go camping. My family had dirt bikes, in fact, we all had one of our own.
On the last day at Hume Lake, most of the camp went off on their motorcycles and rode across the desert, but my siblings and I were too young. So, our parents had us ride in a large circle just outside of camp, where it was relatively safe. Everyone was supposed to come out of camp slowly, so as not to hit anyone.
It was getting late in the day, and the sun was almost even with the horizon, when it happened. I was riding on the right side of the trail, staring into the sun, and I couldn't see a thing. The next moment I knew, something collided with me, and everything went black.
I found out much later that a nineteen-year-old teenager had come riding out of camp on his motorcycle at 25 mph. He came at me head on, but I couldn't see him because the sun was in my eyes. For some reason, he tried to pass me on the left, and ran head on into me.
I was thrown from my motorcycle and lay on the ground unconscious for a long time. At first, my parents thought I was dead. I certainly could have been. It was only because of the Lord that I was saved. I had black eyes, two broken arms, and a concussion.
At first, 911 couldn't be reached, but when they did, they sent in an ambulance and a helicopter, preparing to have to fly me out. Thankfully, the ambulance found me first, and by that time I had woken up, so they called off the helicopter. From there, they rushed me to the hospital.
Unfortunately, the x-ray machine broke, so it wasn't till morning that we were able to get to urgent care. It was there that my arms were set. We weren't able to get out of camp till the next day.
The concussion had really taken a toll on me. I couldn't remember what Costco, avocados, pineapples, and even what my last name was. I had also had a speech delay that had gotten better, but the concussion made me forget my progress.
Thank goodness that the Lord had everything set in place, though. Before the crash, I had been having migraines that were so bad, they made me throw up. So, I had already been seeing a neurologist, and he was able to help me after my crash.
Thankfully, today I am doing fine, and I don't have any repercussions from the crash. That is all because of the Lord and for that I am thankful. I even want to get back on motorcycles... but my mom won't let me.
